Job Title: Field Engineer/ Assistant Project Manager

Job Description

The Field Engineer supports all aspects of construction project execution by maintaining accurate project documentation, coordinating with design and field teams, and ensuring that construction activities align with contract documents and schedules. This role bridges office and field operations, using digital tools and field presence to support RFIs, BIM coordination, scheduling, safety, and quality control on commercial and industrial construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Update field drawing sets with current Requests for Information (RFIs) and Construction Bulletins, in both hard copy and digital formats, to ensure the field team always works from the latest documents.
• Assist in drafting, managing, and distributing RFIs to the appropriate design team members, and track responses to support timely decision-making.
• Assist in reviewing subcontractor submittals against contract drawings and support the Submittal Manager throughout the review, comment, and resubmission process.
• Attend Building Information Modeling (BIM) coordination meetings to assist in clash detection and conflict resolution, act as a field point of contact for model-related RFIs, and ensure model decisions are communicated and coordinated with field installation.
• Prepare and distribute meeting minutes for project meetings, accurately documenting discussions, decisions, and action items and sharing them with relevant stakeholders.
• Assist in maintaining the Constraint Log and Parking Lot Log by creating entries during project meetings and tracking action items through completion.
• Maintain and update daily logs in Autodesk Construction Cloud, tracking subcontractor manpower and work completed to support project reporting and productivity analysis.
• Assist with field timesheets for field employees to ensure accurate recording of hours worked.
• Assist in productivity tracking using Assemble or Bluebeam drawings, as applicable, to help monitor progress against plan.
• Support self-perform field activities when needed by working alongside the crew to build site presence and gain hands-on understanding of construction operations.
• Assist in gathering project closeout documents, including operation and maintenance manuals (O&Ms), warranties, and attic stock requirements.
• Log Architect and Engineer site observation issues in Autodesk Construction Cloud, assign them to the appropriate subcontractors, and track compliance and completion.
• Accompany inspectors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) representatives during site walks and report findings and requirements to the Project Team.
• Actively participate in tracking and supporting the resolution of Job Review Checklist items to ensure issues are identified and closed out.
• Capture documentation for quality control (QC) inspections and assist the QC Manager throughout the project to maintain quality standards.
• Verify field dimensions, quantities, and finishes to confirm alignment with contract documents and identify discrepancies early.
• Learn and assist with building control, robotic total station layout, as-built documentation, and tolerance reviews to support accurate layout and verification.
• Document deliveries by recording Bills of Lading, first material on site inspections, and concrete tickets to maintain accurate material tracking.
• Take weekly progress photos, including using DroneDeploy 360 Photos when applicable, to document project status and support reporting.
• Be present and engaged at Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) meetings, subcontractor kickoff meetings, and preinstallation meetings to understand upcoming work and associated risks.
• Assist with pre-punch activities by identifying incomplete or deficient items prior to the formal punch list phase, helping to streamline project closeout.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the Master Project Schedule in coordination with the project leadership team.
• Participate in Phase Pull Planning sessions, 6-Week Look-Ahead meetings, and Daily Huddle Shift Starts to support short-interval planning and coordination.
• Create and maintain an electronic 6-Week Look-Ahead schedule when required by contract or at the direction of the Project Manager.
• Assist in developing sequence plans in Bluebeam to support understanding of building construction sequencing and trade coordination.
• Assist with maintaining and updating the Procurement Log in alignment with the Master Schedule and submittal status to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment.
• Assist in developing and maintaining the Site Logistics Plan so that it remains current throughout the project lifecycle.
• Assist in preparing daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and weekly toolbox talks in coordination with the Superintendent to promote a safe work environment.
• Perform one weekly Site Safety Walk inspection using Autodesk tools and create at least one safety observation per week to support continuous improvement in safety performance.

Essential Skills

• Experience in construction management with exposure to commercial construction projects.
• Experience in construction management with exposure to industrial construction projects.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for managing project documentation, logs, and coordination.
• Ability to manage and process Requests for Information (RFIs) effectively.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam for drawing review, markups, and sequence planning.
• Familiarity with Primavera P6 for supporting schedule development and maintenance.
• Strong understanding of construction documentation, including drawings, RFIs, submittals, and logs.
• Ability to participate in BIM coordination, including clash detection and model-based issue resolution.
• Strong organizational skills to maintain accurate logs, schedules, and meeting documentation.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with field teams, design teams, subcontractors, and inspectors.
• Associates or Bachelors degree in Construction Management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Hands-on field experience or willingness to work alongside self-perform crews to understand construction operations.
• Experience assisting with quality control inspections and documentation.
• Experience supporting safety programs, including JHAs, toolbox talks, and safety walks.
• Comfort working with digital tools such as DroneDeploy for progress photos and 360 imagery.
• Ability to learn and assist with building control systems, robotic total station layout, as-built documentation, and tolerance reviews.
• Strong attention to detail in verifying field dimensions, quantities, and finishes against contract documents.
• Ability to support project closeout activities, including collection of O&Ms, warranties, and attic stock documentation.

Work Environment

This role operates in a dynamic construction environment on commercial and industrial projects, with a typical workload of approximately 45 to 60 hours per week, depending on project needs, and work occurring 5 to 7 days per week. The Field Engineer splits time between the field and office, frequently visiting active job sites, attending coordination and planning meetings, and working closely with superintendents, project managers, subcontractors, inspectors, and design teams. The position uses technologies such as Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, BIM tools, Assemble, and DroneDeploy to support documentation, coordination, scheduling, and progress tracking. The work environment emphasizes safety, requiring participation in daily and weekly safety activities, site safety walks, and adherence to site-specific safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fond Du Lac, WI.

The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
